More about the energy of food

Today I’ll be exploring how energetic characteristics of food influence how and what we eat, and how foods can actually shift our energy.

Are you familiar with the chakra system? Teri Mosey talks about how foods draw energy to the chakras that control energy flows throughout the body; how food preferences can be tied to the health of a given chakra; and how health problems represent an energy stoppage.

Root
Being grounded, centered and knowing you are part of something bigger represents a root chakra in balance, when your basic needs are being met. Problems with this chakra manifest themselves via a need for routine, a tendency for anxiety, and cravings for meat. Health issues and behaviors that signify problems with this chakra are obesity and hoarding – a need to hold onto things for more security – and auto-immune diseases.

Sacral
Healthy emotions and sexuality, going with the flow and being graceful are the state of a sacral chakra in balance. Control freaks are typically having issues with this chakra. Hydration improves this balance. This chakra is connected to the health of kidneys, bladder, reproductive organs and large intestines: Energy blockages here manifest as endometriosis, menopause problems, constipation and an inability to let go. Do you hate fish, crave salt or need to be in control? Those are more signs that something is amiss in this energy center.

Solar
Self-esteem, personal power, intuition and will are tied to the solar chakra. Do you have problems saying no? Consider that you might have energy blockages here. Excess abdominal weight is another sign. Eating cooked food can help: Raw food can damage and weaken the digestive tract. 90% of serotonin and 70% of our immune system live in this part of our bodies.

Heart
Every single decision you make n life has something to do with love. Beyond the heart area itself, blockages here manifest in the lungs, thymus gland and arms. Fear of intimacy and vulnerability is also a sign of problems with this chakra. Embrace bitters, especially greens like watercress and arugula, and pungent foods like onion and garlic, to manage this chakra via food choices. If you’re looking for lifestyle changes that help, sing – especially while you’re cooking with others.

Throat
Choice, our authentic selves and decision making are tied to the throat chakra. Do you know someone who’s always lying, even about minor things? Chances are they have blockages here. Thyroid, metabolic and neck issues also point to problems with this energy center, which can result from a feeling of being silenced. Seaweed and soups are good for re-balancing this chakra.

Third eye
Do you constantly overanalyze things? That’s a strong sign of imbalances in this chakra. Avoid too many stimulants: Get your boost from spices instead.

Crown
Gratitude is tied to the crown chakra. But an inability to hear other opinions points to problems here. Fasting and detoxing are lifestyle tools to bring this chakra back in alignment
